Mission

The Blacks At Princeton History Project was created by Melvin McCray, a member of the class of 1974, to chronicle the black experience at Princeton University from its founding in 1746 to the present. The mission of the project is to encourage the creation of books, articles, documentaries, and oral histories that tell the stories of black people who were students, faculty, administration officials, employees, neighbors and guests of Princeton. Much of the content comes from the archives that McCray has compiled since 1996 while producing seven documentaries on blacks at Princeton, including over 130 interviews with black alumni.
